Understanding Media Theory In Terms of At the Edge of Art

The first chapter of At the Edge of Art, Code as Muse, coincides well with what we have read in Introduction to Media Theory. The project The Medium is the Massage illustrates what the Mulder is conveying by the very same term. Mulder writes that instead of the medium just conveying the message, it also massages us. In this sense it changes our perception of the content of the message depending on how the message is sent. Golin Levin takes this concept and applies it to input from his audience. Users of his AVES (Audiovisual Environment Suite) can click and drag a substance that moves around a screen. The substance changes accoarding to each installation. The method of input is always the same however. This demonstrates how the message is the massage.
